Meet a #Mother - Jenny Collier
Please introduce yourself and tell us about your family.
I'm Jenny Collier. I am Mom to Hudson Gray (7) and Ella Monroe (6) and wife to Court. I am a lifestyle blogger and this year I opened up an online clothing boutique for women & girls called Gray Monroe. I stay busy but cherish slow moments with my family.
What are three daily things you can’t live without?
iPhone, Wunderlist app, and the Audible app (I love listening to audiobooks in the car, at the office, and on the treadmill)
If you could go back and visit yourself the year you became a mom, what would you tell yourself? What kind of encouragement or wisdom do you wish you had at that time?
Grace not perfection! I have always held myself to impossible standards of perfection when it comes to Motherhood and, of course, have fallen way short. I have slowly learned that I, nor my children, will ever be perfect. Yet I was made to be their mother for a reason! I find such comfort in knowing that I am capable regardless of my shortcomings.
What is something you strive to be intentional about? As a mother, how do you accomplish that in your day-to-day?
I strive to not always be working. I created office hours, email auto responders, and try to be intentional about keeping nights and weekends for myself and my family.
What does your daily routine look like? Is there any one thing that you check off your list that makes your day a success?
I wake up an hour before my kids for bible and prayer and allowing myself to get ready first. This sets the tone for my day. If I wake up late and we are all rushing around trying to get out the door I feel flustered and it reflects in my attitude. After dropping the kids off at school I go to the gym to get in at least a 30 minute workout (while listening to an inspirational or parenting audiobook - my new favorite is the Compound Effect). After that I go to the office and try to knock out as many things off my to do list as possible. I get home when my kids get off the bus and go into Mom mode. Homework, play, dinner, baths, and bed.
What has been your best #mothermoment?
My favorite #mothermoments have been those where I am fully present just enjoying time with my kids...playing in the backyard, playing a board game, stopping to color with them. Just enjoying and appreciating them.
What was the worst? How did you handle it?
My daughter broke her arm on a trampoline earlier this year which still haunts me. Of course, I guilt tripped myself thinking of what I could have done differently to change the outcome. But, shortly thereafter became thankful for the time I got to spend with just my girl caring for her as she healed. Those days are few and far between with our busy lives and she ate it up.
What is your mother motto?
Grace not perfection
If you had a day to yourself how would you spend it + why?
A few years ago for Mother's Day my husband gifted me with a day to myself and I think I would spend another the same way...being pampered. A massage, a mani/pedi, and shopping by myself and then wrapping it up with a date night.
If you could share one thing with our community of mothers, what would it be?
You are enough and an amazing Mom! In our social world it's easy to play the comparison game and feel like you're falling short. You are doing a great job!
